This vase is my largest and most detailed piece to date. The base is a coil-built vase with a moon face on one side and a sun face on the other. Around the bottom there is vegetation inspired by Big Bend National Park. The “moon side” has cacti and vegetation made to look like they are darker and bathed in moonlight. The “sun side” has cacti and vegetation made to look like they are basking in the sun. The piece is titled “Ernst Tinaja” after a trail in Big Bend National Park. Ernst means “sincere” in Spanish and seems to really capture the feeling evoked by the “moon” face. Tinaja means “large earthen jar” in Spanish which of course is fitting.
I truly hope that the home that this piece finds is as beautiful as it is. I have loved having this piece around my studio and it will be hard to let it go!
